Is it safe to consume potatoes that have sprouted?

Digging through my pantry, I discovered potatoes with long sprouts. This prompted a question: are they still safe to eat?

Sprouts signal that the potato is producing natural toxins called glycoalkaloids, like solanine. These can cause nausea and headaches if consumed in high amounts.

Toxin levels increase as sprouts grow. The potato essentially becomes less edible over time.

You may still eat them with caution. Remove all sprouts and any green skin thoroughly, as these areas concentrate the toxins.

Immediately discard any potatoes that are soft, wrinkled, or smell bad. Do not take risks with these.

Proper storage prevents sprouting. Keep potatoes in a cool, dark place with good airflow. Crucially, store them away from onions.

For extensively sprouted but firm potatoes, consider planting them. This turns potential waste into a future harvest.

Some people are only now realizing what the “WC” sign stands for on washrooms

Washrooms around the world go by different names, and in some countries, they have more than one. In the United Kingdom, public toilets are commonly called a restroom or a loo.

However, many public toilets in the UK display a WC sign, leaving some visitors puzzled. A TikTok user recently explained what WC stands for in response to a follower’s question, and the clip quickly gained over 3,500 views.

The TikToker explained that before indoor plumbing, bathrooms were separate rooms for bathing. Water had to be carried and heated manually, so the toilet didn’t have a dedicated space. When indoor plumbing became common, the easiest place to put a toilet was in a small closet, hence the term “water closet.”

The term WC has been in use since the 1870s, but many people had never learned its meaning. The TikTok revelation sparked surprise and discussion online.

One viewer wrote, “I’ve been wondering about this for years but never googled it.” Another commented, “I was 23 y/o when I learned that WC is called water closet.” Others shared that while they knew the term, they rarely used it in conversation.

Some users were amazed that the abbreviation was unfamiliar to others worldwide. “I’ve known this since I was 13,” one person wrote, while another joked about the “common sense levels in the UK.”

The discussion highlighted how language and history influence everyday signs we often take for granted. While WC might seem old-fashioned to some, it remains a standard label in many public places.

So next time you see a WC sign, you’ll know it’s a nod to history — the water closet, a compact space created for convenience in early indoor plumbing. Did you already know this, or were you as surprised as many TikTok viewers?

What Your Skin Could Be Telling You About Hidden Health Issues

Livedo reticularis describes a net-like, reddish-purple discoloration of the skin, most often seen on the legs, arms, or torso. It develops when blood in the small vessels beneath the skin flows unevenly or pools, creating visible patches where oxygen supply is lower. While livedo reticularis can sometimes be little more than a harmless response to cold, it can also be your body’s way of signaling that something more serious is happening beneath the surface. Persistent or unexplained cases should never be ignored.Recognizing the difference between temporary, benign changes and signs of systemic illness is essential. By paying attention to your skin—and seeking medical guidance when needed—you
can catch potential health problems early, when they’re most treatable.

Most people get this wrong and toss out the can. The right way to read ‘Best By’ or ‘Best Before’ dates

“Best by” labels on canned products, like corn, green beans, and tuna, indicate when the food is at its peak quality, not an expiration date. These foods can often be safely consumed well past the labeled date if stored properly.Canned Corn and Green Beans: Canned corn and green beans can last 1-2 years beyond the “best by” date when stored in a cool, dry place. However, expect “gradual quality and flavor changes” over time.Canned Tuna: Canned tuna, known for its versatility, remains safe for 3-5 years past the “best by” date with proper storage. Still, “anticipate some quality degradation” after prolonged storage.Safety First: Always check cans for damage, such as “bulging, rust, or leaks,” and dispose of any with unusual odors or appearance.Storage Tips: Store cans in a “cool, dry, and dark environment,” keep them upright, and use a rotation system to maximize shelf life. Transfer unused portions to a sealed container and refrigerate. Read more below

PICTURES THAT NEED A SECOND LOOK — CAN YOU REALLY TRUST YOUR EYES?

At first glance, everything looks normal. Just everyday photos, casual moments, nothing unusual. But then something feels off. Your eyes pause. Your brain hesitates. And suddenly you realize this image isn’t as simple as it looked a second ago.

That’s what makes these pictures so addictive. They slip past your defenses. Your mind fills in details before it actually understands what it’s seeing. And once that happens, it’s hard to undo the first impression.

Some of these images look innocent until one tiny detail changes everything. A shadow that shouldn’t be there. A shape that looks familiar for the wrong reason. A position that makes your brain jump to conclusions before logic can catch up.

People argue endlessly over these photos. Some claim they saw it instantly. Others swear there’s nothing strange at all. And a few admit they had to stare for several seconds before the image finally “clicked.”

What’s disturbing is how confident the brain can be — even when it’s completely wrong. Our minds are built to recognize patterns fast, not accurately. And these photos take advantage of that weakness perfectly.

Once you notice the hidden twist, you can’t unsee it. But until that moment arrives, your brain keeps guessing… and guessing… and guessing.

That’s why so many viewers keep scrolling, hoping the next image will finally make sense. Or maybe prove they were right all along.

And just when you think you’ve figured it out…
another photo appears — and suddenly, you’re not so sure anymore…

The Secret Your Eggs Hide

You’ve probably been doing it wrong. That innocent rinse under the tap, the quick scrub “just to be safe” — it might be the very thing putting your breakfast at risk. Hidden on every shell is a fragile shield, one you can’t see but you destroy in seconds. One careless wash, and the egg’s silent guar… Continues…

Most people never realize that an egg comes with its own built‑in armor. That nearly invisible coating, the cuticle, quietly seals thousands of microscopic pores, blocking bacteria and slowing down moisture loss. The moment you wash a fresh, intact egg under running water, you’re not “cleaning” it — you’re stripping away its first and best line of defense, and inviting exactly what you feared inside.Yet this doesn’t mean you must live in fear of every carton. If your eggs come from a trusted source and look reasonably clean, leaving them unwashed preserves that natural shield. Cooking them thoroughly, especially by boiling, adds another powerful layer of safety. In the end, the choice is yours, but each time you reach for the faucet, remember: sometimes the safest thing you can do for an egg is simply to leave it alone.

This original Oscars photo from 1972 is not edited. observe it closely

The room shook before anyone realized history was happening. Old Hollywood walked in wearing tuxedos; New Hollywood crashed the party with grit, rebellion, and a chip on its shoulder. Gene Hackman, Isaac Hayes, Charlie Chaplin—each turned the stage into something raw and unrepeatable. This wasn’t just an awards show. It was the night the Academy los… Continues…

Looking back, the 1972 Oscars feel like a rare moment when the industry’s surface glamour couldn’t hide the tectonic shift underneath. The French Connection’s triumph signaled a hunger for danger and realism, while The Last Picture Show, A Clockwork Orange, and Fiddler on the Roof proved that “serious cinema” no longer fit into one box. Even the protests outside the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion made the night feel plugged into the country’s nerves, not floating above them.Inside, the show kept colliding with real emotion. Isaac Hayes turning a Blaxploitation anthem into Oscar gold said as much about culture as any acceptance speech. And then Chaplin walked out, fragile yet towering, and the room simply refused to stop clapping. That ovation, stretching into legend, bridged silent-era ghosts and a restless new generation. The 44th Academy Awards didn’t just hand out trophies; it captured Hollywood mid-molt, caught between the world it missed and the one it could no longer avoid.

If you have visible veins, it means…

Visible veins on the hands, especially in young people, are usually completely normal and harmless. While they may seem surprising, they are most often a natural physical trait rather than a sign of illness.

One of the most common reasons veins appear prominent is low body fat. With less fatty tissue beneath the skin, veins are easier to see, particularly on the hands where skin is already thin.

Skin type also plays a role. People with thin, fair, or translucent skin tend to notice veins more clearly because there is less pigment and tissue to obscure them. Genetics strongly influence this as well.

Exercise is another frequent factor. Physical activity increases blood flow and causes veins to expand temporarily, making them more noticeable. Athletes and physically active individuals often see this effect regularly.

Heat can also make veins stand out. Warm temperatures cause blood vessels to dilate to help regulate body temperature, which can make hand veins appear darker or more raised.

Hormonal fluctuations and dehydration may contribute too. Temporary changes in fluid balance or circulation can affect how visible veins appear from day to day.

In rare cases, sudden changes in vein appearance accompanied by pain, swelling, redness, or warmth should be checked by a medical professional. These symptoms may signal inflammation or circulation issues that need evaluation.

For cosmetic concerns, simple steps can help. Staying hydrated, moisturizing the skin, protecting hands from sun exposure, building healthy muscle mass, and cooling down in hot conditions may reduce vein prominence. For most people, however, visible hand veins are simply a natural feature and not a sign of poor health.

Boy, 14, who injected himself with butterfly for online challenge suffered a 7-day slow death

A Brazilian teenager spent seven agonizing days dying in a hospital bed after injecting a slurry made from a dead butterfly into his own leg. His secret only surfaced when it was too late. Whispers of a viral “challenge,” a hidden syringe, and doctors racing against a mysterious poison turned a childish experi… Continues…

In a small Brazilian city, 14-year-old Davi Nunes Moreira’s curiosity collided with the darkest side of the internet. What began as a bizarre experiment with a dead butterfly and a syringe spiraled into vomiting, pain, and a limp he couldn’t hide. At first, he lied, claiming he’d been hurt while playing. Only when his body began to fail did he admit what he had done, as doctors fought to understand what was killing him from the inside.Investigators later probed whether Davi had been pushed toward the stunt by a warped social media “challenge,” a grotesque mutation of harmless butterfly art trends. Specialists could only guess: embolism, infection, septic shock, or a violent allergic reaction to whatever he’d forced into his bloodstream. His death now stands beside other viral dares gone wrong—another warning that a single reckless click can leave families with questions no one can ever fully answer.
